Walsall to celebrate the diversity of local women for International Women’s Day

A free event for the public and professionals is being organised in March to demonstrate and celebrate the contributions and diversity of local women in Walsall and beyond.

Raising Her Voice will mark International Women's Day, taking place on Friday 13th March at The Crossing at St. Paul’s in Walsall town centre. This event will bring together different women from across Walsall to share their experiences and stories and also promote opportunities for women.

The inspiration for this event came from the Women of Walsall Photo Project, which is about putting a spotlight on Walsall women, past and present. Caroline Molloy is the Living Memory Project bursary artist working on this project.

Around 130 women have taken part in this project and a final film is to be produced, including all of the photos. This will be shown at the event.

From 1pm to 3pm, members of the public are welcome to attend the open event, where there will be information stalls, opportunities and creative workshops from local organisations. Booking is not required.

From 4pm to 6pm, there will be various speakers from different sectors, giving speeches on themselves and their roles and taking part in a panel to discuss issues women face. Registration is required for the 4pm session and free tickets can be booked online at www.raisinghervoice.eventbrite.co.uk

Details of the event can be found by visiting the event page on Facebook or going to www.walsallforall.co.uk/upcoming-events.
